Twelve years on this border and the value on the pedimento is the part I sign for and never the part I set. The importer sends a price, I look at it, I ask whether it smells wrong, I transmit.
Since January the old cover is gone: inexact or false data from the importer no longer excuses the broker. An initiative that went to the deputies on 8 September would pull the fifty percent floor out of precautionary seizure. Instead of a declared value sitting half or more under identical or similar merchandise, any shortfall would do it. That is a proposal and not law, and they were still working through it last week.
The brokers' side has asked for a written standard of due diligence on value, which tells you there is not one yet. So what is mine? I am not a valuation house. I have one morning and a truck at the dock.
For anyone here holding a licence rather than a job: what does your desk do with a price you did not negotiate?
