Lamps can wait, so forget air on the cargo's account; what you have had is courier door service, which two pallets will not fit. Two pallets is the awkward size, too much for a courier and too little for your own box, so you buy a share of someone's container and pay to have your pallets picked out at the CFS (the container freight station there). That unstuffing, plus storage if the shop is slow, is where your per-kilo saving goes. Price the Australian end before you price the sailing.
Tomás, "price the Australian end before you price the sailing" is the line I needed when my first European buyer moved from parcels to pallets. I would put one question in front of it: who pays that end? My courier habit had me quoting to the door, so I was paying a destination list I had never read.
That buyer now takes the goods FCA at my forwarder's warehouse in Taipei, and their own broker handles the unstuffing and clearance. The fees did not vanish. They just stopped being a surprise on my invoice. Do small Australian shops usually have their own broker, or would Mai end up quoting delivered anyway?
