Moving the goods
Since March the picture on my desk has not changed. A box bound for Jebel Ali is discharged at Khor Fakkan or Fujairah, trucked here under seal, and cleared here. Notice 03/2026 says the bill keeps Jebel Ali as final destination. The Oman...
Forgive me for raising a date that is still some weeks away, but it is the sort that arrives quietly. Circular 36/2026, dated 20 August, lets diverted international cargo, FCL and LCL, be transhipped through any Indian seaport or...
Imaginary terminal clerk: "Your fuel number is whatever it was the day you started crying." The weekly federal diesel average set records through September, then slipped for the week to 28 September. Still $6.382 nationally, $6.526 in the...
The latest Chile numbers from the US agricultural service came out at the end of August: a cherry crop of 727,000 tonnes and exports of 667,000, against 569,492 tonnes last season. That is a forecast, not a fact. The same report says...
My port, so read it as mine. Since the end of January an empty here cannot go from a depot straight to the ship's side. It sits in an intermediate depot for at least 72 hours, the agent lodges the handling request seven days before the...
Not my border, so this is reading, not experience. Iran's ports are blockaded, so the trade went to the road. Last week at Gurbulak: twelve hundred trucks where two hundred is normal, twelve to twenty five days to clear into Iran. A driver...
Lowest water I have worked through here. Rijkswaterstaat has said that if the discharge at Lobith falls towards 600 cubic metres a second or below, it may have to put the fairway on one way traffic. It was near that this week. Before any...
Still chasing this one. The EU dropped its 150 euro duty free threshold on 1 July and put a flat 3 euro on low value parcels, charged per tariff heading, not per box. Two months on, the figures are ugly. One count has China's low value...
Since the fifteenth of September the Norwegian side wants it digitally before the barrier: we send the transport half, the goods half comes from whoever forwards the load, and neither counts until the reference back from customs ties the...
heads up if you still put small parcels into the us by post. from september 22 theres a new electronic informal entry for mail, 2,500 dollars and under. voluntary, they say. the half nobody leads with: parcels not filed that way go formal...
A form exists whose whole job is deciding whether anybody mails me about my own livelihood. Romantic. On September 18 the Board refused to throw the UP and NS application out early, so FD 36873 goes to the merits. Comments, protests and...
The facts in order. We buy tins and gift cartons from a Chinese supplier, DDP Melbourne on their terms, their nominated forwarder on the file. The GST I would have claimed on my own entry sits in their price. Freight paid. A message then...
The order that started this: a shop in Australia that took a few boxes of rattan lamps by express now wants a standing order every month, enough to fill two pallets. Air has always been simple for me: collected one week, delivered the...
My favourite kind of rule. Monday the box is worth an extra fifty percent. Tuesday it is worth nothing at all, and I am the one holding it on a chassis while everybody thinks. Three proclamations went into the register this week. From...
The document I am trying to close is the forwarder's final invoice for a sea shipment of fabricated brackets, sold delivered to the customer's door, so destination charges are ours, delivered weeks ago. It arrived after delivery with a...
The facts in order. Four containers reached our warehouse in one morning, two forty-foot and two twenty-foot, booked together through one forwarder. The warehouse manager has said before that our boxes arrive on each other's heels; this...
The deal: we service the machines we sold into India through a local partner, and the spares come from a supplier in China. A three-party arrangement, said plainly: we sell and invoice the partner, the supplier ships straight from China,...
A client of ours wants cargo moved from the United States to Zimbabwe and has asked us to route it through Durban rather than via Germany, which is how it went last time. I understand why: extra handling, extra charges, extra weeks. What I...
